Introducing Custom Progress Monitoring Assessments from BlueStreak Math
We’re excited to announce the official launch of BlueStreak’s newest feature – and one of our biggest ever: Custom Progress Monitoring Assessments!
As of today, this powerful yet easy-to-implement new tool is available to all schools in the BlueStreak galaxy. It is automatically included in all current subscriptions and can be found in the same platform as your existing BlueStreak fluency tools.
It’s one more way we’re helping educators do more with less: less time, less guesswork, and less administrative burden.
Reimagining the Math Teaching and Learning Experience
Our team has been hard at work over the last several years reimagining math fluency for both students and educators. Our vision is twofold: increase student engagement and build confidence while lowering the lift and providing powerful, real-time insights for educators.
We call this cutting-edge approach Math Fluency 2.0, and over the past few years, we’ve brought this vision to life through:
- Accessibility features like text-to-voice and all resources in English & Spanish
- Fractions & decimals modules to expand beyond fluency with whole numbers
- Automatic intervention groupings
- Turnkey, scaffolded mini-lessons with academic vocabulary
- New multiplayer learning games that promote social interaction and engagement
And now we’re applying that same vision to progress monitoring, so you can better see your students’ growth in the areas that matter most to your curriculum, state standards, and intervention goals.
Bringing the BlueStreak Vision to Progress Monitoring
BlueStreak’s new Custom Progress Monitoring Assessments are built to deliver what today’s educators need most: actionable data, streamlined setup, and a stress-free experience for students.
Just like the rest of the BlueStreak platform, the new Custom Progress Monitoring Assessments are designed to reduce workload, increase clarity, and fit naturally into your existing routines. You can build assessments aligned to your standards, curriculum, or intervention goals using BlueStreak’s robust item bank, assign them to the right students, and get real-time insights on performance and growth.

Math Fluency 2.0 + Custom Progress Monitoring: A Match Made in Educator Heaven
By incorporating this new tool into the existing BlueStreak platform, we don’t just streamline the experience for you and your students – we create a powerful way to marry progress monitoring and math fluency to better identify and bridge critical learning gaps.
After all, the two are a natural pair. Students’ fluency practice in BlueStreak is differentiated, as well as module- rather than grade-based to meet students where they are. This results in a personalized learning experience for students, where each can play at the level most appropriate for them while their academics remain private to their peers. Progress monitoring complements this, with assessments aimed at gauging student performance on specific skills or standards, both individually and as a larger group (e.g., grade-level preparedness for high-stakes assessments).
Between BlueStreak’s existing real-time reports (including automatic intervention groupings) and the new progress monitoring tool, educators can more easily identify gaps early, adjust instruction in real time, and track improvement over time, making fluency practice and instruction more targeted and effective. Optional strategy worktexts even provide turnkey mini-lessons for educators to quickly and easily address these gaps.
Example Uses
Gauging Readiness for High-Stakes Assessments
Goal: With high-stakes assessments quickly approaching, a grade-level team wants to gauge the preparedness of 5 third-grade classes who will be assessed on multiplication.
Prep: The team builds a PMA aligned with state standards for these 5 classes using BlueStreak’s multiplication item bank and schedules it to be administered Tuesday morning.
Student experience: When students log into BlueStreak for their daily math fluency practice Tuesday, they will automatically receive the PMA. Once they have completed the assessment, they will return to their standard practice in the platform.
Result: The team receives immediate insights on all third-grade students’ assessment readiness with data on areas to reteach or reinforce.

Tracking Growth at Tier II
Goal: A teacher working with Tier II students on fractions wants to track their growth over time and identify those not responding well to instruction.
Prep: She builds a custom PMA tailored to the curriculum using BlueStreak’s Fractions item bank, assigns it to the 8 Tier II students, and administers it every Monday.
Student experience: On Monday morning, all students in the class log into BlueStreak for their daily fluency practice. The 8 students automatically receive their assessments while others pick up where they left off with learning games. Once done, the 8 students continue with BlueStreak learning games as usual while the teacher receives the PMA results.
Result: The teacher is able to identify students in need of direct support faster, then use BlueStreak Strategy Logs to provide one-on-one or small group instructions to struggling students.

Custom Progress Monitoring Assessment FAQs
How can I customize Progress Monitoring Assessments for my students?
We recommend using the BlueStreak Custom Progress Monitoring Assessment builder to create one-time or periodic assessments mapped to state standards, curriculum, or intervention needs. Assessments can be deployed at the district, school, grade, class, or individual student level.
How should I use this new progress monitoring tool?
Our hope for this new tool is twofold: make it easier for educators to administer progress monitoring assessments and deliver more actionable insights to equip educators with the data they need to make better decisions. With these benefits, we recommend using BlueStreak progress monitoring assessments to…
- Measure student performance
- Quantify rate of improvement
- Evaluate effectiveness of instruction
- Identify students not responding well to instruction
- Track growth throughout the school year
- Provide feedback to students and teachers
Are progress monitoring tools integrated within the existing BlueStreak platform?
Yes, BlueStreak progress monitoring tools live in the same BlueStreak student and educator platforms you already know and love! Not only does this mean less complexity for educators, it also means students can transition seamlessly between assessments and math fluency learning games. In other words, you don’t need to adjust your existing routines to use BlueStreak PMAs — they will seamlessly appear for the assigned students when they log in.
Can I assign progress monitoring assessments to only certain students in a class?
Yes! That’s part of the beauty of these assessments integrating seamlessly into the existing BlueStreak platform. If you assign them to only certain students in your class, all students can log on to the platform at the same time. Those assigned the assessment will be prompted to begin before continuing to the student dashboard for Learning Cards or learning games. All other students can continue to the dashboard as normal, so academics remain private and no student feels singled out.
What kinds of insights will we get from the Progress Monitoring Assessment dashboards?
All data is real-time and can be viewed on a district, school, grade, class, or individual student level. Progress monitoring performance dashboards in the educator platform include data points such as…
- Average, high, and low scores by assessment cycle
- Student pass/fail rates by cycle
- Performance across cycles
- Item analysis
…and more!
